The End!

I thought I could just report it and replace it, but no. The state cannot allow duplicate license plates to live out in the wild, so I was compelled to re-apply with a new name. Before I did, I just started calling it the “Sleeper” because that’s what it is and it has seven letters. I could see the tag “SLEEPER” and felt satisfied. But no. It was not available.

Starting over, again, I used the DMV website to test possible names and letter combinations, and succeeded with DRK ROOM, which is what it is. It was ordered and - after removing the temporary 'regular' tag - has been installed, and now you know.

Time to go!

The first choice was “Little Red Spot” - RED SPOT on the tag - as a reference to the Great Red Spot on Jupiter which is every amateur astronomer’s first target. I acquired the personalized specialty plate ( State of the Arts ) and then promptly lost it on a trip to the Kissimmee Prairie Preserve Sea Park, Florida’s only official Dark Sky park. In addition, a close friend created a set of the words with her vinyl cutter and I tried to apply them to the cabin. But no. Too much Thompson’s Water Seal. Nothing will stick. No explanation has ever fit the circumstances of the lost tag, so it remains an unsolved mystery.
